Karen, Grace and I are on our hols, staying at my parents and visited the National Waterways museum at Ellesmere Port near Liverpool.
Its stunning location beside the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal makes the museum well-placed to show how the waterways helped drive the UK’s astonishing industrial revolution.
Many of the narrow boats and barges are left moored in the side canals, some look very dilapadated indeed.
This barge was owned by the National Coal board, boat number 337.
