Facade Triptych
I first came across the idea of a triptych through a webcomic, Sluggy Freelance, and tried to find a source that I could use to frame 3 pieces of work that were each independent, but tied together and told a story when compiled.
Each frame of this triptych corresponds to a portion of the song ‘Facade’ by Disturbed off of their album, “Indestructible”- itself a song that tells a story of an abusive relationship seen from the outside. The frames were each drawn individually, with references mostly from sketches I had done over the years.
Frame one (Innocent and Elegant) was an attempt to do a soft-shaded colour image. I made it a point to stay away from cel-shading because of my personal distaste for it.
Frame two (Frightened and Trembling) is an emulation of Frank Miller’s stylized black-and-white with spot colours and heavy shadows.
Frame three (No More Pain) is an attempt to bring my illustration to a realistic/surrealist style.
