Shark!

Of the more than 300 species of shark found in Australian waters, there are only a couple of species that are known to attack humans. Yet 2009 will surely go down in the history books as having a record number of shark attacks.

This summer alone it seemed like every week there was another person emerging from the water with bits missing. Sometimes twice a week. That’s if they were lucky enough to come out of the water at all.

And even though you are more likely to die of a bee sting, there are now cries to increase the quota of shark fishing to cull the populations that have been living in our coastal waters for millions of years.

I think it’s important for us all to respect that the moment we step off the land and into the sea, we are out of our depth and are no longer at the top of the food chain.

I’m doing this shirt to present the lighter side of these primordial creatures and point out that they aren’t menacing. They’re just hungry.
