Artist's Description

Continuing a series of portraits of The Thousand Races. Pencil on 100lb smooth bristol.

The ape had a cantankerous relationship with its habitat and the suit it had grown for him. He certainly appreciated the suit’s amenities; the chitin sheets growing on the crest of his helmet absorbed solar energy, protected from UV radiation, and radiated excess heat in the form of light. The lichen that covered the suit was a very effective photosynthesizer and temperature regulator. But then one of the icebirds had compared him to the shaggy, silver-backed primate that was his ancestor, and despite his relative solitude he suddenly felt as if he was the butt of a joke, and that somewhere, others were laughing.
