Original pen and ink illustration colored all animation-style in the open-source image editing program Gimp.
EDITED IN GIMP!

Another ink work from the Way Back Department (1992). This character is one of several in the full piece depicting post-apocalyptic combat among animal people, but none of the other characters turned out so well. My ink style is heavily influenced by Virgil Finlay, Albrecht Durer, Gary Gianni, and my penchant for dystopian anthropomorphics comes from such diverse sources as Cordwainer Smith, Beatrix Potter, and Warner Brothers’ Merrie Melodies.

“Pete Janes entertains the macro insect crowd with meticulous gouache and watercolor specimen pieces, while his more imaginary illustrations seem to be glimpses into faraway realities.”—noted art critic and Portland bum R. Terialspray

  • Thanks James! It has been fun to plumb the depths of my old flat files and find old works to rehabilitate.
