Food Fight at the Donner Cafeteria

Artist's Description

Pen, ink, watercolor and gouache on 140lb smooth bristol. Note the characteristic green-striped pencil in the dog-man’s pocket: a Dixon Ticonderoga #2, my standard drawing pencil for years. This is one of my earliest color works that I still have around, and features some anthropomorphics recovering from a food fight (note plate of potatoes and peas flying in upper left). The background previously had a large plaque naming the cafeteria as a memorial to a cannibal survivor of the infamous Donner Party , a tribute to my prankster father who installed a similar brass plaque in the cafeteria at the Maritime Academy in New York, awarded for “dining excellence”. When he visited 20 years after graduating, the plaque was still in place!

By all means, view larger! If you’d like to look at some of my other anthropomorphic work, please look here
