Shape of Things to Come Roach TEE by

An example of pulling the macabre from the prosaic. This was originally an illustration for Backhome Magazine along with illustrating an article about cockroach varieties. A gloomy and frigid afternoon brought on the apocalyptic slant.

Arguably the most successful and misunderstood higher animal species on the planet, cockroaches may have our respect for transcending the epochs unchanged, surviving mass extinctions and proving able to thrive in the harshest conditions, but humans as a species loathe them, for they will doubtless continue on long after our world is dust.

“Pete Janes entertains the macro insect crowd with meticulous gouache and watercolor specimen pieces, while his more imaginary illustrations seem to be glimpses into faraway realities.”—noted art critic and Portland bum R. Terialspray
