Daniel Smith watercolor on Arches 140 lb cold press. 1044 views as of April 2011.
The most popular species of Tarantula kept as pets, and one can see why: inquisitive, personable, powerful yet delicate. An excellent ambassador species to help us all rid ourselves of the fear of all things multi-limbed and exoskeletal. This piece was done as a pet portrait for a local teacher raising the spider among her charges.

Looking rather cool on a t-shirt or hoodie as well:

Thank you all. I’ve been feeling a bit lonely in my own bubble, but I’m glad to have discovered Redbubble! Diko: really nice work, especially if you’ve only been painting for 14 months! Angela: also really nice work! I love painting flowers . . . have you ever noticed that capturing differences in skin tone is very similar to doing the same with flower petals? Always a challenge. I feel like I learn something new with each painting. Back to the drawing table!

Wow it looks like it is ready to jump through my computer! Your shadows and fine detail are incredible. I look forward to your florals if your spider is this good ( I much prefer flowers :) )

  • Thank you Earthangel! I’ve got a hard drive’s worth of flower photo reference from a very busy summer, so I’d better get busy!
