This is my second image done for the Abstract Workshop in the Solo Exhibition Group. Created in Photoshop CS5 using four of my own images.

This one is about pure raw emotion. I am taking my inspiration from music found in the inspiration list provided in the workshop. “My Body is a Cage” by Peter Gabriel. My thought process is this…As small children we are an open book and our inner light shines freely, then as the years go on we slowly start to put on armour to protect ourselves from unpleasant occurances. If there are enough of those things that happen in our lives, our armour becomes complete and we are totally drawn within and hesitate to show our true light to others in fear of being hurt. That armour stiffles us and stops us from being true to ourselves and hinders our creativity and desire to be heard and seen. Then more years pass and we become stronger and cracks start to appear in that armour, allowing some of our light to shine through. We crave for the ability to just be free and let others experience our true light. This piece is all about breaking through the cracks in the armour and letting our light shine brightly for all of the world to see. A risk, yes, others may scorn, but we are strong enough now to be scorned without being hurt. We are who we are and when we know that, it is a good thing.

A very deep emotional creative work Robin. The process of peeling back the layers that protect one’s self takes great emotional strength. BRAVO for this extremely riveting masterpiece, I’m proud to call you FRIEND…Jules…Favour

PS. Red is my favorite colour, well suited for this piece.

  • Wow you almost made me cry Julie! You saw right through this one! Thank you so much my dear dear friend! :))

I absolutely adore this Robin and I so loved seeing the progression. You really surprised me at each stage and I couldn’t wait to see what would come next! You portray the concept so well and the title is perfect!

  • Haha Pauline! Each stage surprised me too! Hehe….at points I wasn’t sure I would be able to pull it off but in the end it worked out. Thanks so much! I do appreciate such lovely praise from you. :))
