Radiation weakened the 3rd Doctor and affected his cells, although he made it back to UNIT headquarters. He regenerated in front of the Brigadier, Sarah Jane and Harry Sullivan and quickly bounded around with a radically eccentric personality and jelly baby fetish.
He lived from 1974-81 and was portrayed on screen by Tom Baker.
This fourth incarnation was an unkempt, jelly-baby eating, awkward-looking figure, dressed in battered clothing and a riduculously long, multi-coloured scarf, which had originally been knitted for him by Madame Nostradamus.
