Don't You Want Me

“Don’t You Want Me” by the Human League is a conflicting male/female duet with the subject of jealousy and sexual obsession as the main theme. Its pop style has often led to a misinterpretion that it is a love song. The male part of the song is a svengali figure who turns a female waitress into a ‘star’, who then subsequently leaves him once she has obtained fame.

Released in the UK on 5 December 1981 it went almost immediately to number one and remained in the UK charts for 13 weeks, and was Christmas number of that year.

The single went on to sell 1.4 million copies in the UK and is the 25th most successful UK single of all time.
