Firefighting is NOT a Solution
Does this Fire Fighting culture sound familiar…
Focus on solving problems rather than patterns of problems
Deadlines drive all priorities instead of strategy
Priority is set by rank of person rather than importance
Individuals set priorities rather than strategic teams
Unrealistic deadlines set and accepted
Depend on the best people rather than training others
Patching is tolerated where really solving is required
Patchers are heros and rewarded but we should reward the solvers
Patches become the system instead of the system achieving goals
Problems managed by individuals instead of strategic teams
So Fire Fighting or Problem Solving?
I know which I prefer, but I know that tomorrow I’ll get into the office and find another nice shiny red fire bucket waiting for me!
I might as well bang my head against that brick wall!
