this is the full negative from this shot. The errors were too good to crop off really….don’t you just love happy accidents?also big enough for massive SUPER LARGE POSTER!!!! though I think it would look pretty grainy….
boats, bay, fishing, coast, pinhole, goulburn, opera house, alternative process, soxy fleming
Soxy moves between different media, recycling, assembling, capturing and bringing previously unseen things to the surface. If she’s not creating something visual she will be singing and making music….
very spooky. nice effect.
Hi Pip! thanks, don’t know how I did it! but that is all part of the fun and surprise of this alternative stuff
– Soxy Fleming
Bloody hell Soxy, that is phenomenal. Yes, I LOVE happy accidents, whether chemical, digital, social, or whatever. It’s almost like the effect in LOTR, when Frodo puts on the Ring, and everything goes swooshy. Do another one…
hahaha! what a reaction! you can imagine how excited I was when this started to appear in the darkroom. I’m working my poor old laptop hard…I scan these at 1200 ppi and end up with massive files.I’m saving my coffee grounds. I’m going to boil them all up and filter it before using but I’ll have to take some pics to develop first. thanks for the visit!
1200’s high for a print; what size is your print? Why boil the coffee grounds? Now, off to dev a pinhole pic – in HC110, not coffee!
I like to get them big enough for a large poster…my biggest negs are 5 by 7 inch but sometimes I don’t scan the whole thing.I just think that I might extract more caffeine by boiling
Of course. Boiling might be OK; I wonder if you can degrade the caffeine level by heating too long? Just did a quick search, and a comment on this Metafilter page suggests that over-roasting does: “The oils degrade, and so does the caffeine,” so that “Lighter roasts … not only have more aroma but also more caffeine!” The only way to be sure would be to take 2 sheets exposed identically and dev one in grounds that have been re-boiled, the other in ‘fresh’ grounds; better still, go for different levels of re-boiling and test them all. Heck, this sounds like a small research project – there might be a paper in it!
aw yer getting too scientific! what about art? I don’t know…I think that over roasting might be a different issue to extracting or leaching the stuff into water. They use water to decaffeinate soamybe just lots of washing…but then the solution would need concentrating. it’s ok. you can write the paper!
Gotcha! Go for the art Soxy, you do it quite well :) Seriously, you’d want to know whether the extra boiling was making it worse or better, and a quick test would show that, but I doubt I’ll be writing any papers on it! Just doing a journal on normal processing though.
Wow! do you do instructions for the total novice? this looks great
I can’t give instructions for this one….I have no idea what I did! well I have a few ideas but really it was a complete surprise, I can’t tell anyone how to do this!
Amazing stuff, Soxy! The whole series is incredible!
it’s given me a big buzz doing them. thanks for the fave
luv the series
