David, I’m so pleased that you have posted your work here at RedBubble!

This image is a great piece of documentary photography and a stark reminder that, essentially, the human condition of the alienated and marginalised fringe dwellers, has not improved much in the last 40 years…

I knew them well and used to stop for a chat. I was oung then and perhaps a little brazen. I would find it difficult to do a shot like this today. Nevertheless it is a record of a moment and it finds a sympathetic response in all who see it.

  • frogster

What a great character study. you can just see the hurt in the man on the rights eyes. We are all just one step away from being like these two gentlemen. I really like you study on all these old shots, great work.

I’ve been truly amazed at the grey people (heroin addicts) in London.

  • david malcolmson replied

It’s twenty years since I was in London. I can visualise the misery and feelings of quiet desperation that the drug culture has brought to the city. The gentlemen in this shot were addicted to alcohol.

Hello Michael. I don’t think you can beat the experience of seeing a picture on the wall unless it’s in a beautifully printed coffee table book. The homepage feature caught me by surprise as well. I was wondering what had prompted the sudden surge in comments. Best wishes, David.
