Oh dear. That picture says so much! Glass half full perspective makes me think of how many memories the lady carries. Hopefully, many good ones.
Whenever I see those kind of trees, I think about my second-favourite book. It was given as a present at my birth, in Gouda, the Netherlands, in 1943 and it was an anthology of children’s literature. It included a poem about those kind of trees standing patiently, year after year by the waterside, in Holland. Just having their ‘hair’ (branches) clipped every so often.

This poignant photo reminds me of my trip to Yugoslavia in 1987; everyday I’d see women who looked just like this walking to daily Mass, their arms loaded with flowers for the altar at church. They were strong, faith-filled, virtuous women. Thank you for focusing on senior citizens, the treasure of humanity we sadly often neglect to appreciate! I salute you, Sorin!

I dont know what else to say but this image made me stop and look at it for some time. It is very peaceful and graceful. One can see her life story on her face yet I don’t feel any sorrow or regret or hardship. Hello Sorin! How are you in Romania. Although I’ve never visited I’ve seen films of the landscape. It’s a beautiful country. The people are often attractive and clever. I love this photograph. I think this is the quintessential image of old woman-ness. She is straight out of all the legends and wive’s tales that we in the West have been brought up with in our culture.. something in us knows that as women we all have her in us..

How often Europe provides us with these moments so full of meaning. The walk in a rural area at the end of a day says so much because the person has usually doone so much during the day. The darkish look on this woman’s faces is offset by the glow on the tree bark and wooden slats of the building. Something to contemplate for a long time. I wish I could walk up to her and ask about where the road has taken her, now that’s she’s returning…

This is so perfect! Brings back great memories.

Your “End of the Road” photo reminds me of work I saw when I was in art school a very long time ago. It might have been by the Hungarian photographer Moholy-Nagy but I’m not certain. The sepia tone as well as the lighter trees on the woman’s left add a great deal to the timeless quality of the photograph. All in all very effective work.

Do you know the photography of Frederick Evans? Looking at your photo makes me think that you would appreciate his work.
