The Transformation
This is a short story I’ve entered into the “Blood Red – All things Vampiric” group’s “first blood/first time you ‘took the plunge’” competition. It’s the first piece of written work I’ve submitted since I joined Redbubble a year and a half ago, so I hope everyone likes it! x
The Transformation belongs to the following groups:
Back In Black ( sorry~NO PHOTOGRAPHY), Blood and Mortar, Blood Red - All things vampiric, Dark Future, Monsters Ink, Practising the Dark Arts, Short stories - Spherical Scriptings and Up & Coming WritersPulling the bolt across, Lilia sank to her knees and rested her head against the cold wooden door. She knew that locking herself in her room could only ever be a short-term solution, but in the 3 days since the incident, it was the only solution she had managed to come up with. She had nowhere else to go, and the thought of trying to explain what was happening to her to an everyday, “normal” person…well, that wasn’t an option. She clutched onto her dressing table and pulled herself slowly onto the chair in front of it. Looking in the mirror that sat on top, she was suddenly acutely aware of the fact that she could be witnessing something very familiar for possibly the last time – her reflection. She studied her face, tracing the contours of her features with her eyes. She was determined to make a mental imprint and stamp it on her brain forever, so that when the transformation finally took place, a part of the real her would still be in that body, somewhere. Glancing down at the two red scabs on her neck, she could feel the memories of that fateful night ebbing into her mind, like blood into water. Blocking them out immediately, she shot up from the chair and began pacing the room like a caged animal. She could feel the thirst getting worse by the hour, creeping through her gut like venom, making every hair stand on end and the air itself hurt her skin. She could feel unwanted, evil ideas stabbing at her brain like needles, egging her on to do unspeakable things. A sudden, crippling pain in her stomach made her fall onto the bed beside her and double up in agony. It was then that she noticed the Bible on her bedside table. She unbolted the door and flung it open with such force that it was left swinging back and forth as she ran down the dark corridor and onto the street. Eventually, out of breath, she stumbled into the church she loved so much. She hadn’t even known if she’d be able to enter, wondering if her current “condition” would allow it, but the Bible on her bedside table had given her the idea and she felt she at least had to try. It was somewhere she’d always felt safe, since her parents had first taken her there at the age of 5. In her madness, she’d thought maybe somewhere like this would be able to cure her. Maybe if she prayed hard enough, she thought. Kneeling at the front pew, she clasped her hands together in prayer. Seconds later she heard a familiar voice: “Hello Lilia, how are you? Bitter night isn’t it?”. She remained still for a moment, head down. Then she mumbled “we drink the blood of Christ dont we Father?”. “Sorry?” replied the Reverend, thrown by the odd response. “It cant be all that bad, if we drink the blood of Christ” she hissed. As she looked up at him, the Reverend stumbled backwards and fell over the step behind him, mouth and eyes wide with horror. Lilia’s yellow eyes stared blankly back at him, void of all emotion. The transformation was complete. Jumping to her feet with superhuman agility, Lilia leapt onto the Reverend and pulled his head back by his hair. Curling her lips back slowly into a mixture of a grimace and a smile, she revealed her freshly cut fangs. The Reverend writhed and kicked, much like a gazelle in the clutches of a lion, but it was equally futile. Lilia sank her canines into his jugular and, slowly, his life drained away. When she had finished, Lilia threw her head back and screamed. Not because she felt remorse or devastation, as the “real” Lilia would have, but because of the immense, all-encompassing relief she felt, having finally satisfied her craving…....for now
