Thanks Kalb! This is actually my son. I was wondering if I should black out the background. What do you think?
Paul Vanzella
No, I like it like that – it gives the image context… the warm golden colours are amazing!

What a powerful capture of the raw beauty of one of life’s most defining moments – a child crossing over the threshold to life, a woman crossing over the threshold to motherhood…
Superb and very inspiring work!

It appears that your worthy shot has made home page for a second round. It is a great piece, simply stunning and truly is ‘Powerful, beautiful and frightening, all at once!’
jiba
Great piece of work! I am amazed that you managed to be composed enough to take the shot at this moment, let alone have the camera in your hand, haha, photographers aye! Congratulations :)
RiSH :
I like the photo.
The window shows light, that is symbolic.
The baby is entering a new world.
I think rest of the things can be more black.
Draganin
Beautiful capture, especially if you were both the mother & photographer (though the two hands at the base of the shot makes me think someone else took the shot on your behalf?).
The glowing golds really warm the shot & the hands passing him on, wanting to linger….
Definitely don’t black out the background. The shot would lose its realism if you did, and part of the power of its message.

Thanks again to everyone for the lovely comments. I’m so proud that my little man made it onto the home page for a 2nd time! By the way, to everyone who asked, no I didn’t take the photo – I was a bit too out of it after 2 and a half canisters of gas and air, 2 injections of pethidine, an epidural and a 22 hour labour ;0) ! So I cant take credit for the fab shot, that was down to a surgeon who was in the room and offered to take it with our camera. However, I did play with the pic once I’d uploaded it onto my computer (changed the lighting, tones, soft-focussed the edges, etc), so I had a teeny weeny hand in it I guess!xx
