The woman, having sought wisdom from her tribe’s mystic elder, goes against his cautioning words and ventures to the edge of the desert to seek power. Her friend and mount, a lioness, accompanies her, faithful even in the face of possible danger.
They reach the edge of the desert in the dead of night, pausing to seek the best route through the dunes. By starlight is the safest way, for though the desert holds many dangers, the heat of the sun at midday is by far the deadliest.
