Hi All
Just thought I would share with everyone that I will be attempting to take the journey of changing my life. I was hoping to keep a jounral going through out my journey. Here are some facts about me to start. Each week I plan to set targets of how much weight I wish to loose. At the end of the week I will write another journal on how I’m feeling and my new details for the next week. I’m writing this in order to gain some support to keep me going. Any words of wisdom or support would be appreciated. I will add photos soon even though I am ashamed of the way I look. But first here are some details:
Height: 177cms
Current Weight: 113kgs
Target Weight 85kgs
Total Weight to be Lost: 28kgs
Profession: IT Manager
Week 1 Targets
Target Weight Loss: 6kgs
Following a targetted eating plan and going to try and exercise atleast 30mins a day.
Well that is my first journal an I hope to write my next one next Sunday.
Thanks in advance for support or words of advice.

Well done Michael, this is the first step, losing weight is a super hard thing to do…may I offer some suggestions…one thing i found to garuntee weight loss is….excercise 3x per week and dont alter your diet much at all, your body will be going thru changes on its own, so best not to starve it aswell…I do know how you feel tho about being ashamed to show people your photo, but dont be, after all, its just a photo and not who the real you is on the inside….also dont set your goals too high, be kind to yourself, I used to say oh i want to lose 8kg this week, well it never happened lol, so even if you aim for 500grams, thats still a loss, If you want support, then, you sure have it here with me, drop me a line if u want to talk more, good luck on this important journey :0)

I will be watching your progress
Know you will be ok
balanced diet/no sweets/no alcohol…........you can actually buy sugar free sweets from the chemist/it satisfies the craving….but then you may not get any cravings and just sail through eating salads/fruit/bit of this and bit of that/walking walking

michael 6 kilos a week is a big ask and is to hard to maintain, 1 kilo a week is more realistic. its just about choices in what you ear and portion size, with yes at least 30 mins of exercise a day. Incidental exercise also helsp, walk more during your day.

Go for it – I lost 25k over 6 months – it can be done – four years later I have put back on 5k – exercise, diet, changes in routine.

Just don’t mix carbohydrates and proteins in the same meal, you have proteins for one meal, carbs for the next, just not both together. You body burns proteins and stores the carbs for later use, which it never needs to use, but if you only eat carbs, then it will burn them because it has nothing else. Good Luck, I know you can do it!!!!

Having been constantly through these scenarios (eating disorders and illness) I have a few personal but non-expert observations:
1. Diets do not work. Lifestyle changes work. If you think you are “on a diet” you have already failed. You can only keep weight off by permanently changing your habits.
2. You have already spotted that exercise is key to a healthier body. But just make sure you don’t under eat. If you feel dizzy at any point then make sure you have enough water and calorie intake.
If you feel dizzy get checked by a doctor and ask to see a dietician to get advice in the right amount of food intake taking your exercise into account.
3. Cardiovascular exercise (running, swimming, rowing, cycling, step, even dancing etc.) will be more beneficial to your well being and more effective at burning fat than resistance (weights).
If you aren’t sweating within 5 mins of cardiovascular then you are probably not pushing yourself and your heart. You should be breathing harder.
Weights are good for muscle toning and building strength (which can in turn benefit some cardiovascular stuff, e.g. legs for running and arms for rowing). Weights will never make you fit… unless you put them on your back and run with them.
4. I’d advise that you start your exercise with the philosophy of building up to your target 30 mins of continues cardiovascular rather than pushing yourself flat out for 5 mins and being exhausted. The increase in performance will come naturally with time, teh stamina needs to be worked up.
There is nothing to stop you exceeding your 30 mins and exercising for as long as you wish. If you want to become a long distance runner… go for it. But get some guidance.
5. Here comes the biggest hypocrisy. I should really take my own advice on this one: to minimise injury always warm up and shake down. At the very least stretch your lower and upper leg muscles before cardiovascular. It should be almost a dull pain when you do it.
6. Losing weight will be psychologically hard to start with. For all sorts of reasons it comes off in a way that is hard to notice any big improvements. But after time teh body gets on top of thing sand you will go through spurts of weight loss that really very noticeable, broken by periods when the shift is less obvious or pronounced.
Remember that a proper healthy plan involves building up denser/heavier muscle tissue and shedding the lighter fat. Just because you don’t seem to have lost much eight doesn’t mean you haven’t shed fat. Remember ‘muscle in/fat out’ is a trade off.
7. Try to make your new healthy diet as tasty as possible. You will get nowhere if you don’t like the food you eat.
And once you are at point where you are happy. Stay there and don’t forget you can occasionally have the things you shouldn’t have on a regular basis as a treat.
8. Make a routine that you will be happy to stick to for the rest of your life. And remember you can always change your routine without giving it up.
Execrising alone will make you feel so much better and give so much energy. With a helthier diet you’ll feel like a new person!
Good luck! And remember there is no failure and only setbacks if you keep at it.

I wish you the best. It is always good to sit down and write out exactly what you want to clear your mind and your body of its excessive poundage. And I know that you can do it, I have faith in you! Supporting you all the way. Smiles from Jane:-)

Chookas mate you shall be fine!
It really doesn’t matter what you eat provided it’s in moderation and you MOVE!
In my youth I was a ballerina and a hocky player horse rider and walker – 2 miles each way to and from school at the very minimum! But I was always a large person big breasts big thighs and big calves [the legs courtesy of my father and ballet!] I could do nothing to slim down! [I always got the clown part in the ballet recitles!]
I have yo-yo-ed in stones all my adult life without anyone noticing! The last was 30 kilos in 6 weeks ….. before that it was 3 stone in 3 months and before that was a few dress sizes in a few months.
I gained weight when I was pregnant like fat sticking to ice on top of the soup! [oh by the way that’s how you get fat out of your soup! :o)] The first significant weight gain I had was 7 stone in 7 months due to pregnancy – I retained water BIG time!
I have tried all the diets and the weightloss programs and the gyms etc…
What works is WATER and MOVEMENT!
What you eat really has no baring just so long as you do eat and eat often, drink liters of water and you move more than you eat!
And you sleep 8hrs a day in one lump sum! That’s when your body cleans out your system and gets rid of your waste … and eat in the morning and at lunch and not necessarrilly at night! … If you don’t sleep your body hangs on to what you have in your stomach and stores it for energy use to fuel you being awake :o)
And don’t hate yourself! Guilt and depression and anger makes you hungry! Or it makes you not eat and that’s just as bad – your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to everything you do put in your mouth!
My great gran lived to 102 and her recepie for life was A little of what you fancy does you no harm but everything in moderation!
Hope this helps :o)
Above all KEEP HAPPY!!! :o)

Thanks AlexMac- there’s no way you are 38! Did you hit the 3 instead of the 2 or have you just sold your soul to the Devil??
Oh I forgot to mention also:
Obviously setting time/weight targets flies in the fact of how the body works… just stick to a proper calorific intake and enough exercise and the body does its own thing… pushing to meet targets will result a best in disappointment and at worst in injury/illness that will set you back in the long run.
Apart from that working your weight out from your height and gender is highly innacurate, and most medical professions don’t do it anymore. Body MAss Index calculators are a lot better but fall short.
The amount of fat on your body is teh best indicator. But again that is only side of being healthy. Other issues like blood sugar level and cholesterol levels are also an important factor.
Healthy blood sugar and cholesterol isn’t rocket science. Work out a proper diet with a deitician and stick to it.
Right, pompous lecture over.
BM me if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them and be honest if I can’t!
:-)

You’re welcome. Most of that was learned when I had to lose FOURTEEN Stone! It may have been more but the scales had already been round once and were heading for another revolution hahahaha!
Remember it is virtually impossible not to burn fat if you eat right and exercise.

the diet im on is an hospital diet it involved fresh fruit and veg which is commen sense but its not that alone its exceptionally well balanced and for me the only one that has workd i want to lose about a stone or stone and half ideally, dont want to be thin just get rid of my obvious bits, when i reach my goal i wont continue but will be more select at what i put in my mouth and on the whole try to eat more healthfully my friend has lost 3 stone and you can really see it and even her skin is glowing because she is getting good nutrients personally i feel better in general and today putting on my old jeans which were going to charity was wonderful ok a lttle tight maybe but my goal now having got into them is nothing drastic but to just fit them with more comfort and i agree set little goals the way i look at it is when maybe i havent lost anything is, is, well ok thats fine i havent gained

Hey, with all this free advice and support, how can you lose! Or, eh, not lose, or, eh….
You’ll do great. Just keep busy.
Lois Romer, 3 months ago
I also forget to mention, take your measurements, such as your chest, waist and hips. there will be weeks where your weight on the scales will stay the same but your measurements will decrease. If possible graph the measurements. If you where female and I said graph your weight I would only say that as females once a month general put on a little weight at that same time each month. I managed to maintain 57 kilos for 10 years then i had some stresses and had to return to full time work and that has effected my weight a little.
Michael Humphr... in reply to Lois Romer’s comment, 3 months ago

I will follow your progress with much interest as I have been trying to lose weight for some time now but due to the fact that I have health problems I can’r exercise like I used to (all my life I worked with horses and my normal weight was 7st 2lbs – sorry don’t understand kilos!!) and because of a serious back injury I was given steroids and couldn’t walk and that’s how the weight piled on.
I am sure with RB help you can do it … it’s amazing what one can do with the help of friends.
With light and love … Jen

Good luck & stick at it, remember to do it for you…Your body however will find a comfortable weight once you get kick started, so dont get over paranoid about weight, more about health…when I was younger I became obsessed & anorexic, now i eat what I want, when I want, but in small quantities…little & often & I’m a happy size 12 / 14 UK…Don’t let it become your life, enjoy the changes but know when to stop…Cheers Bev xx ;) www.bevsbook.co.uk
