Of course, I just call him Dad. (very affectionately of course)
I took this photo this past Fathers Day in North Carolina at the Raptor Center.
This is a long standing tradition that my Dad and I have. We usually hike to the end of a trail leading to “buzzard rock.” There we dine on a picnic lunch that is comprised of cheese, apples, bread, wine…. Very yummy!
We follow our hike (always tons of pictures) with a trip to the raptor center. This is a most wonderful place that takes in injured birds of prey and the rehabilitate them for release. When release is not an option the birds are cared for and shared with the public. The center relies heavily on volunteers.
I wrote this for my dad about a year ago, and I think it is fitting for the photo!
You were there
I took a picture today, you were there with me. I could hear you whisper to exhale as I press the shutter.
I taught my daughter the difference between a hawk in flight, and a vulture in flight, you were there with me.
My daughter asked me the name of a tree today, I told her it was a Hemlock tree; you whispered it to me.
I told my daughter some of my fondest memories today, walking in the icy woods the world looking like jewelry; you were there with me.
I took my daughter for a walk today, her hand in mine ….. I felt sad that you weren’t there with us, then you whispered to me, I’m here.
I know that there are many miles between us; but in my heart, you are here.
Here is his fiancee’ Carol
