Letting Go

An overwhelming urge to cry
Creeps over the bright, positive façade
She placed as a wall around her emotions;
To hide all feeling from the world around her.

This darkly pessimistic mood
Threatens to overcome and drag her down,
Till she finally let’s go of her vice-like grip on her tears…
Of which have long gone unshed.

Denied the chance to flow unchecked for so long,
Now they take advantage of her weakness,
This one breech in her stone wall.

Her once bright and smiling face,
Now slowly loses its luminescent glow
And brilliant grin.

All joy is replaced with a mournful frown
And melancholy countenance.
Finally, she allows herself to cry…
To shed the tears she denied herself.

In the quiet of the night,
She finally let go of her heavy burden!!
For, only when in solitude, away from all other eyes,
Could she release the tears of which verged on falling every moment of the day.

Artist's Description

One of the worst things a person can do to themselves is to bottle everything inside themselves and not express their emotions. This poem is basically about that. Finally letting go of all that bottled up pain and fear.
