Snow Gum on White

John Barratt

Snow Gum on White

This shot was actually slightly overexposed, which allowed the snow gum that has a dusting of fresh snow to come out in a more ghostly grey, with detail in the trunk retained. The surrounding snow and sky however wasn’t completely washed out, and the slight detail and contrast there allows you to just discern its place relative to the snow and this sky.

    Thanks Grant.

That tag is an initial effort to divide up my portfolio a little into distinct groups where each image has one ‘home’. Using a unique tag like this means I can still for instance use ‘snow’ as a tag on images but then not have them necissarily appear with other snow images.

I have a soft spot for shots of snow gums, reminds me of the many times I have been skiing in Guthega.

this is just outrageously beautiful and ethereal. i love the strange shape of the tree with the branches on the right reaching out. cracking work sir.

Very nice.. there is a surreal feeling to this shot, so much so that it almost looks unreal! Love the soft tones in this and the form of the tree is wonderful…

not all that much snow where i am at the moment, but do get out and shoot in it from time to time – usually head off to the zoo to shoot the siberian tigers having a good romp in it! this shot is great – not all that much detail required when it’s all just white anyway! very nicely done!

beautiful shot, and i like how you handled it. it’s not completely washed out, so it’s still realistic and grounded. but i love the whiteness of the ground and sky on the LHS, and how they blend together.
