Red, Red, Robin Redbreast
This is technically a Scarlet Robin, though it is often referred to as (the Australian) Robin Redbreast. This image was take on the Great Alpine Rd near Mt.Hotham at the start of the Razorback. It shows a beautiful Red Robin atop a red snow pole.

This is a beautiful shot mate. Can’t believe you got the a shot of one one those fast little suckers let alone the beautifuly coloured combination of that snow pole and the intensly blue background scenery. Did you colour adjust this image? if you don’t mind me asking? It just seems sooo blue.
Anyway, congrats on a great capture John.
Stephen Colquitt
Colours work great together. This comment takes nothing away from your skill as the photog but what a lucky capture!
John Barratt
Thanks Christian! Certainly was a lucky shot, I was actually taking pictures of the Razorback at the time when I noticed him come along, luckily I had my telephoto lens on, and I got three shots in before he zipped off.
The image has been level adjusted, and a small boost in saturation relative to the primary digital scan, but no colour shifts or colourising. Looking back at the original slide, the blues, and reds are just as strong. This was taken on slide film (Fuji Velvia 50), which at the risk of starting a digital vs film debate, I think still has an edge over digital with respect to colour saturation. You can push digital images in photoshop or the likes a bit to get better saturation, but often the results are not as pleasing. I am though a very happy DSLR user!

And thanks Stephen. Yes, a big part of getting this sort of shot is you have to be lucky, and ready to seize the opportunity when it does come along! I was lucky also that my camera was ready to go for the shot, no fiddling around with lenses needed, otherwise I would have certainly missed it.

John – Isnt it great when everything falls into place. I broused through your portfolio too and I love some of your Alps pics. I was just up in Thredbo during Easter time and did some walking. I was looking for Brumbies but had no luck. Yours shots inspire me to get out there and search harder.

it looks unreal, and doctored. But I believe you. that’s how good it looks – so good it just couldn’e be real… but it is. Brilliant. I agree with Wayne. This never happens, and on the off chance it does, capturing it is a priceless moment.

I’ve been to the Victorian alps and just know that the blue is really true and the poles are a striking contrast. This is my first comment on redbubble and your simplistic image is one I really try to capture.
