Say you went into a Salon, and for two weeks got the hairstylist there to practice updo’s and styles etc in preparation of a big event. Finally, 2 days before the big day you settle on the absolutely perfect coiffure, it makes you so happy that you’re beside yourself with joy, it’s everything you’ve ever wanted. Then, the day of your event you never show up for your appointment. Your hairstylist calls you and says ‘What happened, is everything ok?’ and you say " Oh yes, everything is fine – I showed my friend what you did and she did the same thing for me for free!"
For anyone not familiar with it, my DayJob is as a Travel Agent. I love my job, but sometimes the people I deal with tick me off.
I work on commission, I’m not ‘ashamed’ to say that. I work damn hard to earn it, so when someone uses up 2 weeks of my time, and then goes and books their exact same travel online, or with another agency in order to ‘save’ $50 that really pisses me off.
It’s not even losing the business that irks me, it’s losing 2 weeks worth of getting other business, and developing a rapport with clients who will appreciate what I do for them.
As a travel agent, in the service industry, all I have to say is – if you have absolutely no intention of booking anything through me, and are using me as your own personal google because you are too lazy to do the research yourself – at least have the decency to say so. Don’t take away from them the opportunity to earn a living by abusing their time. If you don’t want to pay for a service then fine – then just don’t use it.
As you can tell…. I’m really pissed off.
