Helmet 1
Last night I had the opportunity to shoot one of the biggest bands of my youth – Helmet. The greatest thing about this show is that they played the entire Meantime album from 1992. Whilst the world was high on Nirvana’s Nevermind at the time, it was Helmet’s Meantime that hit the nail on the head for me. It was ‘the album’ to put on when I was feeling pissed off at the world…and at 21 years of age, that was quite often : )
On Meantime, Helmet blended the best elements of metal and hardcore punk, combined it with unusual time signatures and delivered some of the best stop/start riffing that no one has been able to match since. Their influence on many of the ‘nu metal’ bands that followed in the late 90’s up to now is undeniable. The good news is that they have still got it and had the Cambridge jumping along like it was 1992 all over again.

Great Series of Photos. I still am a big fan of Helmet, in particular the Meantime Album. They are a bunch of fantastic musicians. When I first heard their music I thought, they must be some crazy looking hardcore dudes with tattoos and long hair, only to find out they were just a bunch of ordinary looking guys making extraordinary music.
