When I first heard about string theory and the idea that there were more dimensions than the ones we know, I thought One dimenison, a point; Two dimensions a plane; these are not real things. They are ideas and tools we use for communication, to make things and to understand the universe. But there are no one dimensional or two dimensional things.

Then I thought about shadow, a two dimenisonal thing percieved the same empiricallly by everyone. How would I appear to an alien being who could only perceive me as two dimenisons. So I made these photographs of my shadow. They are like images of outer space, which are not photographs as we may think of a photograph but radio waves which have been colored. Or an image of a cell in a body which has been colored using dye or different light. These photographs are originally b&w and then color has been added.

Its similar to Abbott and his book “Flatland” except his was literal and mine is visual.
