Memorial Day

Memorial Day

life lovingly nurtured nine months in the womb
by its mother
dispatched in an in instant to a cold lonely tomb
by a gun
no pain does it feel
designed solely to kill

a gun knows no pain, no mercy, no fear
when it takes the life of one so dear
it has no emotion when it sets out to maim
to snuff out a life as a candles bright flame

thousands of innocents shipped off to fight
not even knowing wrong from right
blood thirsty zealots look to kill
gun in hand, just for the thrill

mothers and fathers, to the internet leave their kids
to teach them the morals that they never did
still we wonder and ponder over the years
while the gun to their children, holds no fear
while the gun to their children, draws death near
