Windmills of your mind by David Kessler

I need say nothing further about this piece. The words and music say it most eloquently!

“The Windmills of Your Mind” is a song with music by French composer Michel Legrand and English lyrics writte
n by Americans Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman. The French lyrics, under the title “Les moulins de mon cœur”, were written by Eddy Marnay. The song (with the English lyrics) was used as the theme for the 1968 film, The Thomas Crown Affair.1 The opening two melodic sentences were borrowed from Mozart’s second movement from his Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra.

Many, many thanks to deviantartist Reine-Haru without whose lovely image, this piece would certainly not have been as powerful as it is.

Round like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending on beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that’s turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
