This is an ironic situation. In this image, there is beauty, simmetry, colors and sadness. If it weren’t for all of the Veterans and Active Personell that gave their all, this image would not be possible. I would prefer that this shot was never taken. For something that can be so beautiful, it is sad that there is a need for such things as Veterans Cemetaries. I wish this cemetary had been here when my father died in 1997. He would have been proud to have been laid to rest here with fellow veterans from all branches of the military, he was retired Air Force. I think he was in for around 23 years. I do know he took plart in the Berlin Air Lift, but I don’t recall him ever saying anything about World War II. My mom married him when I was 6 and he adopted us 3 kids when I was 12, so I’m not knowledgeable of his entire military past.
I also just happened to think about the date. If you figure this on a numeric stance, it comes out as “12-11-10”. This will never come back around and fall in this manner, until we reach the year 3010. That’s 1000 years, wow I just realized how long that’s going to be. I’m afraid none of us will be here to observe it’s happening. We will get a “10-11-12”, in two years, but no more 12-11-10 for a very long, long, lonnngg time. I used my Canon EOS Kiss Rebel 300D and my Canon 100-300mm telephoto AF Macro lens. If memory serves me, the focal length was at 200MM. I was actually sitting in my drivers seat of my Ford Explorer, shooting out my passenger window when I took this shot. I did finally get out and walk around some, but I didn’t do much photoshooting at that time. Scenes like this one, sadden me. To think of all it has taken to keep our freedoms. This cemetary on Midway Road in Dixon, California in the United States, is only 3 1/2 years old and there are already over 7,500 permanent members of this property. It is filling up way too fast in my eyes.
For some reason, while I was typing this storyline, these next words came to my head, so I felt I had to write them down.
We send them off to fight a war,
Yet, not old enough to vote.
We train them to survive alone,
Then place them on a crowded boat.
Across the seas they all must go,
Often never to return.
The hearts of all their loved ones
Now have only but the burn.
The fire that it creates inside,
Can never be put out.
The life it took from someone’s heart
Is far beyond a dought.
They’re never to come home again
To see the one’s they love.
But, to be laid under a flag, in a box
By hands covered with white gloves.
Be them old or be them young,
We will send them off to war.
Then we always will have to need a place
To bury them that’s for sure.
For loved ones who come here to grieve,
this will always be the place,
Where they can come and look on the years
And remember their loved ones face.
