Artist's Description

FEATURED IN:

ON SATURDAY, JAN 23, 2010, I WAS TRAVELING DOWN HIGHWAY 505, IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, HEADING FOR MY HOUSE AFTER A DAY OF TARGET SHOOTING. THE WAY MY SHOOTING WENT, I SHOULD HAVE STAYED HOME, BUT I NEED TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE AT LEAST EVERY WEEKEND. AS I WAS TRAVELING SOUTH, I NOTICED THESE VERY OMINUS LOOKING CLOUDS AND SOME VERY DELIBERATE POCKETS OF RAIN COMING OUT OF THEM. IT GOT SO BAD AS I WAS DRIVING SOUTH, THAT AT ONE POINT, “IT CAME DOWN IN BUCKETS AND BARRELS”, FOR ABOUT 6 MILES OR SO. I COULDN’T SEE THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME, THAT WERE ONLY ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY, AND I COULDN’T SEE THE HEADLIGHTS OF THE CARS BEHIND ME, FOR ABOUT 1/4 MILE BEHIND ME. SO, I SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN THE RAIN REALLY HIT, AS DID MOST OF THE OTHER DRIVERS I COULD SEE AROUND ME. IT HAS RAINED EVERY DAY FOR THE LAST WEEK SO FAR, I’M HOPING IT DOESN’T DO THAT THIS WEEK. I NEED MY BACKYARD TO DRY OUT A LITTLE BIT, SO MY TWO KIDS DON’T KEEP COMING BACK IN THE HOUSE WITH MUDDY FEET. IF THEY DIDN’T TEAR UP THE GRASS WHILE THEY PLAY, I WOULDN’T HAVE ANY MUD IN MY YARD. BUT, SASHA LIKES TO RUN WITH CHEWY AND SHE IS THE HARDEST THING ON MY LAWN. CHEWY LIKES TO RUN IN STRAIGHT LINES, SASHA LIKES TO DO TURN AROUNDS AND THAT IS WHY THE GRASS HAS TURNED TO MUD IN TWO SPOTS. ONE AT EACH SIDE OF MY YARD. THE BAD AREA ON THE EAST SIDE OF MY YARD, IS ALREADY BARICADED TO KEEP THEM OFF THAT AREA UNTIL SPRING AND I CAN REPLANT THE GRASS THERE. THE SPOT ON THE WEST END OF THE PATIO IS NOW MORE MUD THAN GRASS, SO COME SPRING, SAME AS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE YARD. BARICADE IT OFF AND RESEED THAT AREA. IF I COULD AFFORD IT, I’D HAVE MY ENTIRE BACKYARD CONCRETED OVER, GREEN IN COLOR OF COURSE. THIS RAINBOW IMAGE WAS TAKEN WITH MY CANON EOS KISS REBEL 300D, WITH MY CANON 18-55MM ULTRASONIC ZOOM LENS. THIS IMAGE WAS TAKEN AT 18MM, SO THAT I COULD TRY TO GET THE ENTIRE RAINBOW IN THE SHOT. THE RAINBOW WAS SO LARGE, THAT AS YOU CAN SEE, I WASN’T ABLE TO GET IT FROM END TO END. YOU CAN SEE HOW MUCH WATER IS STANDING ON THE HIGHWAY FROM WHAT IS COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE TIRES OF THE VEHICLES THAT ARE IN THIS IMAGE. THIS IMAGE GOES ALONG WITH THE WRITING THAT I DID ON MONDAY OF THIS WEEK. I HAVE A LOT MORE IMAGES OF THIS STORM, BUT WITHOUT THE ABILTIY TO BATCH LOAD, IT WILL TAKE A BIT TO GET MORE IMAGES READY TO UPLOAD.
