Artist's Description

FEATURED IN “Top Shelf,,,Wildlife and Nature Art”, GROUP

A NICE PERSON HAS PURCHASED 2 MATTED PRINTS OF THIS IMAGE,,,,THANK YOU NICE PERSON. UPDATE,, AS OF AUG. 29, 2010,, I FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF MY CLASSMATES FROM THE VACAVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASS OF 1970,,BY THE NAME OF RICH BISHOP,, WAS THE PERSON WHOM PURCHASED THE TWO IMAGES. SORRY I MISSED THE REUNION RICH, BUT MANY THANKS FOR MAKING THE PURCHASE.

FEATURED IN THE “TOP SHELF WILDLIFE & NATURE ART GROUP” AND “THE BEAUTY OF NATURE GROUP”. THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE CONCERNED.

THIS MORNING, JUNE 26 2009, I HAPPENED UPON A SMALL FLOCK OF PELICANS, SITTING OUT IN A FLOOD FIELD ON THE DUCK CLUB WHERE I FISH. THE OWNERS OF THE PRIVATE CLUB, KEEP THE FIELD FLOODED IN ORDER TO PROMOTE PLANT GROWTH AND HOPEFULLY IN THE LONG RUN, ATTRACT DUCKS AND GEESE. IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME, LAST YEAR AFTER THEIR YEARLY EXPENSES WERE FIGURED UP FOR THE CLUB, EACH DUCK THAT THEY SHOT DURING DUCK SEASON AND EACH GOOSE THAT THEY SHOT DURING GOOSE SEASON,,,,, CAME IN AT A WHOPPING $1400.00 EACH. NOW, THERE ARE DUCKS AND OTHER BIRDS ALL OVER THE PROPERTY AND WHEN I SAW THESE PELICANS, I KNEW I HAD TO TRY AND GET SOME SHOTS OF THEM. I SAY TRY, BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING MY FORD EXPLORER AT THE TIME AND I HAD TO GET MY CAMERA OUT, TURN IT ON AND TRY TO STOP THE TRUCK QUICKLY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GET A CLEAR SHOT. I GOT THIS IMAGE WHILE SHOOTING OUT MY PASSENGER WINDOW AND MY TRUCK HAD JUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ON A GRAVEL ROAD, IT’S NOT EASY GETTING A SMOOTH STOP, TO KEEP FROM BLURRING THE IMAGE. I LIKE THIS SHOT A LOT, BECAUSE IT REMINDS ME OF A SQUAD OF FIGHTER PILOTS, COMING IN HOT WITHOUT FUEL AND ALL THE FLAPS AND LANDING GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED. THIS PHOTO TOLD ME IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CALLED, “TOWER,,,,,, WE’RE COMING IN DEAD STICK”, SO CLEAR THE RUNWAY AND BREAK OUT THE EMERGENCY CREWS. TWO OF US ARE OUT OF FUEL AND THE OTHER TWO, ARE RUNNING OUT AS WE SPEEK. WE HAVE TO PUT THEM DOWN ALL TOGETHER, WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH FUEL TO GO AROUND FOR ANOTHER RUN AT IT". I MANAGED TO GET THIS IMAGE OUT ON GRIZZLY ISLAND IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, IT’S PART OF THE LARGEST NATURAL ESTUARY IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THANK GOD IT’S HERE FOR US MEER MORTALS TO ENJOY. I SHOT THIS IMAGE WITH MY CANON EOS KISS REBEL 300D AND MY 75-300MM TELEPHOTO AF MACRO LENS. THIS SHOT WAS TAKEN AT 300MM. THESE FOUR PELICANS JUST HAPPENED TO BE IN THE PERFECT FORMATION. WHEN I SAW THEM LIKE THAT, I COULDN’T HELP BUT IMAGINE WHAT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR OUR PILOTS,,,ANYWHERE,,,AND IN ANY WAR OR CONFLICT. IT’S KIND OF FUNNY, I NEVER REALLY NOTICED THE LITTLE FAMILY OF MOTHER DUCK AND HER DUCKLINGS IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER OF THE PHOTO BEFORE TODAY. I GUESS IT PAYS TO LOOK AT ALL AREAS OF THE SHOT. I MIGHT HAVE CROPPED THEM OUT BY ACCIDENT.
