THE START OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL by

THIS,,,,,,WAS MY NANNU, THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN 1983, WHEN HE WAS 6 YEARS OLD. WASN’T HE GORGEOUS. WHEN I GOT NANNU IN JUNE OF 1977, I DIDN’T KNOW HE WOULD BE “THE START OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL”. IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE PERSONALITY HE HAD THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH WOLF HYBRIDS. NANNU WAS AN 80% TIMBER WOLF, WITH 10% ALASKAN HUSKY AND 10% MALAMUTE. THAT IS WHY I WAS SURPRISED HE WAS ALL WHITE. EXCEPT WHEN HE WAS IN THE SNOW, THEN HE TURNED YELLOW. VALLEY SMOG AND ALL THAT YOU KNOW. ANYWAY, HE WAS MY BUDDY, MY COMPANION, MY INSPIRATION AND HE DEVELOPED A DESIRE IN ME TO HAVE MORE WOLF HYBRIDS. WHEN I HAD TO PUT NANNU DOWN IN 1992, I ONLY WENT 4 DAYS BEFORE I HAD TO GO OUT AND FIND ME ANOTHER 8 WEEK OLD HYBRID PUPPY. THAT DECISSION LEAD TO ME HAVING 3 MORE HYBRIDS, ALL AT THE SAME TIME. “DEOGEE” SHAWNA WHITE WOLF WAS HER REGISTERED NAME AND SHE WAS 75% ARCTIC, 10% GERMAN SHEPHERD AND 15% MALAMUTE. SHE TOO WAS WHITE, ONLY WITH AN APRICOT BLANKET ON HER BACK. NANNU WAS MY FIRST WOLF AND HE LASTED THE LONGEST. HE WAS 15 YEARS AND 2 MONTHS OLD WHEN I HAD TO PUT HIM DOWN BECAUSE OF TUMORS ON HIS SPINE AND IN HIS HIPS. I KNEW THEY WERE CAUSING HIM PAIN FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT I COULDN’T AFFORD TO GIVE HIM TREATMENT AND ALL I COULD DO WAS WATCH HIM PROGRESSIVELY GET WEAKER EACH DAY. BY THE TIME I HAD TO HAVE HIM PUT DOWN, HE HAD TO LEAN AGAINST THE FENCE IN MY BACKYARD TO URINATE. I COULDN’T MAKE HIM SUFFER ANY LONGER. I CALLED MY VET AND HAD HIM COME TO MY HOUSE AND PUT NANNU TO SLEEP IN MY ARMS, ON MY BED. I WRAPPED HIM UP IN HIS FAVORITE BED SHEET AND CARRIED HIM IN MY ARMS OUT INTO THE BACKYARD, WHERE I LAYED HIM TO REST FOR ALL TIME. THE CONCRETE AND CIRAMIC HEAD STONE WILL BE JOINED SOON BY THE 3 THAT I HAVE IN BOXES ON MY GUN CABINET IN MY BEDROOM. DEOGEE, FOUR “SOCKS”
AND "SMOKEY"FOUR SOCKS. MOM, DAD AND SON. THAT IS GOING TO BE A RUFF DAY. I’M SO GLAD I HAVE SASHA AND CHEWBACCA NOW. THE LEGACY LIVES ON WITH MY HYBRID, CHEWBACCA. IF IT’S TRUE ABOUT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE, I WILL HAVE A PACK OF 7 HYBRIDS AND ONE LAB/SHEPHERD MIX WAITING FOR ME WHEN MY TIME COMES TO GO HOME. I USED MY CANON AE-1 WITH MY CANON 100-200MM TELEPHOTO LENS TO GET THIS SHOT OF NANNU. I HAVE SINCE GONE STRICTLY DIGITAL AND I NO LONGER USE FILM.

This is lovely,I too have my pets at rainbow bridge, one I have in his casket here to come with me when I am called as he would never leave my side and if I went anywhere without him he wouldnt eat but would sit on the windowsill watching for me to come back, he wouldnt move untill I did, but lovely work and lovely capture of Nannu what a wonderful friend x

  • Thank you Supernan, Nannu wasn’t that connected to my hip, but he was very loyal and I could take him just about anywhere without a leash. It broke my heart when I had to leave him with some friends when I drove a 18 wheel semi-trailer rig cross country for 13 months and the friends that I left him with kept him on a lead between two trees and he was an indoor wolf dog while I had him. I hated seeing him on a lead like that. Once I didn’t drive anymore, I took him back and he never went on a lead outside again. Dinner time, I’ll talk later. Bob ;)
