Recently purchased my first DSLR. Have so much to learn, but loving it!
Am the mother of six… ages eight to twenty… each wonderfully unique, beautiful, and strong-willed… never a dull moment… quiet moments here and there… Many of my photographs were captured with “tribe in tow” :)
Am a perpetual student… I currently teach high school social studies…
I love nature… travel… anything related to water except washing dishes… showing my children the adventure and wonder of life… conversely being shown the adventure and wonder of life by my children… and photography.
My first camera touched my hands at age nine, a Kodak Ektra (1, I think)110. I went through countless rolls of film, enjoying myself immeasurably. National Geographic fueled my imagination and wanderlust, and became the foundation for future dreams…
My DSLR has opened an entirely new window for me. I am finally able to ATTEMPT to capture moments as I’d like. I love the stillness of waiting in nature… the thrill of hoping I “got the shot”… all the “problems” of my life melt away when focusing on a preferred subject. Time both flies and stands still.
As simply as I can express it: Taking photographs makes me happy :)
From Walking with Henri Nouwen: A Reflective Journey
by Robert Waldron:
“When Rilke worked for Rodin, the great sculptor advised Rilke to visit the zoo and to watch the animals closely. Only then would he understand what sculpting was all about. Not until one achieves an “inseeing,” Rilke meant an intense identification with the object of our gazing to the point that our inseeing becomes an outseeing: the ego disappears.”
My oldest daugter Emmaline, age thirteen, shares my portfolio.
“Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
~ G.K. Chesterton
“Voici mon secret. Il est très simple: on ne voit bien qu’avec le coeur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.”
~ Antoine De Saint-Exupery
