Sarah E. Melville is a starving artist from the Central Valley, California. Her works deal mainly with her ‘twin obsessions; art and nature, formality and sensuousness’; attributes she channels through the human figure. She prefers working in oils and will only use acrylic if there is a huge tub of matte medium at hand. When sketching, she uses a ball-point pen ninety-percent of the time, using pencil on rare occasions.
When she’s not drawing she is mostly likely writing. She has written two full-length historical fiction novels, both of which are in the process of being rewritten, and one novella, soon to be expanded. Some of her favourite books (and plays) include The Scarlet Letter, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Jane Eyre, The Dark Tower Series, Hamlet, The Crucible, The Stand and Jude the Obscure. She also enjoys reading rather long and dry biographies of almost anyone who belonged to a monarchy pre-19th c.
Every waking second of her life, if she can help it, is spent listening to music. Some of her favourite bands are Starflyer 59, mewithoutYou, Gorillaz, 9voltpenpal, Digitalism, Emery, Showbread, CSS, Norma Jean, The Ting Tings, Goldfrapp, Eisley, Death Cab for Cutie, Copeland, Blindside and Circles and Circles. Like her taste in books, she has a habit of liking soundtracks, specifically that of The Village, The Virgin Queen and Lost in Translations, all three of which are her favourite movies. Some other good ones are Garden State, Shaun of the Dead, Girl With A Pearl Earring, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
She has an affinity for languages, the British, obstetrics, history and costuming.
