Young Bob Zimm by Conrad Stryker
Clear

Bob Dylan, from the cover of ‘The Times, They Are A-Changin’ ".

This is another old sketch, presumably from the summer of ‘04, that I’ve had laying around for a while. While I intend, at some point, to do something new with it (already have a few ideas floating around in the ol’ nog), I figured I may as well post the original piece up here, first, before I end up doing anything irreversible to it.

Graphite on white sketch paper. Sepia toned on the pc to give it that ‘olde timey’ feel.

“Hey, look … art!”

Ah, this is my favourite BD era. Back when he was all young and folksy, love it.

  • In so far as folk music goes, not much touches his first album. And, to think he was only 19 at the time … Makes me ashamed of being so old and having accomplished so little in comparison.

Glad you folks liked it. Now, I almost wish I hadn’t been so brash and ‘destroyed’ the original.

    Almost …

Ow … this makes me feel old. I saw Dylan performing live in Newcastle, England in 1984, which was about the time you were born I believe. I had almost all his albums in vinyl (still have them) and am slowly replacing them with CDs. I think he would like this drawing of yours.

Do something new on a fresh sheet of paper, but please don’t alter this drawing.

This is a great drawing, funny I’m just listening to another Bob Dylan album – Highway 61 Revisited, song on is Ballad of a Thin Man. I picked up the CD cover for Times they are a Changin’, compared to yours, love the distinctive cheek bones, that was what drew my eye when I looked through your art. If you’re going to redraw it, as you mentioned, the original seems to have a young man’s self-assured pout (well that’s how I’d interpret it), :)
