William Blake and the Heavenly Host

Man of vision/man of words.

If you’re not yet hip to William Blake (and these days, who isn’t?) you should be. Get off your ass and go pick up a copy of his complete works. You’ll be a better person for it.

I like your use of colour and there is a real feel of him in this painting! I agree with you completely, if you haven’t heard or know nothing about William Blake then it’s time you did. I end this with a quote from him…..As a man is, so he sees. As the eye is formed, such are its powers........Wonderful rendition to accompany his words.S

Great … I must be hip, because I have liked Blake’s work since the 1960s. My late father was REALLY into Blake though … poetry, art, philosophy … I have a book of Blake’s poems my father bought me in 1981 and it is still in great condition ‘cos I covered it with Coverlon. I also have a few books by Poe, whom you also portrayed.

By the way, here is a variation I did on a Blake painting .. I couldn’t ask his permission, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind :)

I really like the way you contextualize your portraits – almost curating it for us. Looking through your work today, I learned a thing or two. Thanks.

You should paint James Ensor, just because he is awesome and you paint awesome.
