where did you find a snow leopard in sydney??? he’s nice and fluffy! (brain just kicked in – Taronga park zoo?)

  • smallfox replied

actually s/he was down by Macdonaldtown train station watching birds – oh no wait yes, Taronga. I’m mixing him up with another cat. And yes, very fluffy and harmless looking, hey?

p.s can you give me some tips for my photos

  • smallfox replied

Well, with regards to animals, you need luck and patience. This leopard was just in a good place, high up, looking in the right direction and with good lighting. Animals will do what they do and sometimes they provide a good shot and sometimes not. I took quite a few tiger shots and none of them were any good (and I’d really like a nice tiger shot). What can I do but accept that. If I’d been prepared to sit around and wait for a while I might have gotten a good shot but who knows how long that might’ve taken?

This one stands out nicely from the green background but there were two others that were not so available for the camera.

In regards to photos in general – take lots (digital cameras are wonderful for that) and look at the broad picture or at the details (one of the other, not both a the same time). Now you ask me this question I’m not sure how to answer it because I don’t really think about it that much – I just like taking photos. But I can tell you that I’ve got lots of duds – if I get one good photo in ten then it’s been a good day.

Just have fun and check out what others are doing for ideas.

    Good luck.

Where was it taken? You seemed to have timed it so right!

  • smallfox replied

Well, they are native to this part of Sydney, but as they are very elusive creatures I took this photo at Taronga Zoo. I was mainly lucky that it was standing at the high end of its enclosure (which it shares with two others). I took a few photos but this one was the best because I managed to get its face more fully in shot.
