Bee Balm, or Wild Bergamont, is a wild herb native to the eastern U.S. from New York, west to Michigan and south in the Appalachian Mountains to Tennessee and northern Georgia. It occurs along wooded stream banks and in moist hardwood forests. A popular garden ornamental, beebalm has escaped cultivation and established in the northeast from New Jersey to New England and Quebec. There are several different species. The botanical name is Monarda and it is edible and used to make tea and is excellent for treating systemic candida (yeast infections, thrush, impetigo, mouth ulcers, sore throat, diaper rash) and is also good for quickly treating burns (by adding saliva and using as a compress on the burned area).

I pick them from the wild and put them in my garden because they are highly attractable to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. :)
