Located in the Far North of Queensland is the one place you must visit – Paronella Park. One of the most romantic locations on earth.
This is one of the many attractions on the park – Kauri Avenue.
Even though the towering Kauri Pines are from New Zealand, they grow wonderfully in the tropics with the high rainfall and good seasonal winter. These trees are merely 80 years old and could live for over 1000 years.
None have been touched or used in any way, and they’re officially heritage protected (which is unusual because they’re not native). It is because they’ve signed a caveat preventing the removal of these prized trees.
Now the avenue stands majestic, together and strong. They’ve withstood 80 years of cyclones (including 300km/h winds of Larry), floods (a 1946 devastating flood, and again in the 60s and 80s) and even other trees falling down around them.
The lane (currently) wide enough to walk hand and hand with your lover (or loved ones). But perhaps in 360 years time you may have to be skinnier as the trees will greatly increase their girt!
In the Far North? Why not visit – stay the night there too – it’s worth it!
The photo was taken using the ‘pin-hole’ effect – an in-camera effect with the Olympus E30. There is no photoshopping (at all) on this photo it’s straight out of the camera!
