Artist's Description

I’ve been waiting for weeks to get these guys out and about – and finally the sun came out and they began venturing out of their hive.

The Australian Native Honey Bee is not much bigger than 5mm – which is why I am so pleased to actually get one on digital film.

They’re found right over the Queensland, NT and WA coast including some inland areas and maybe in the far north of NSW as well.

There are several species and it’s almost impossible to tell which one is which.

This one that is pictured here actually nest in a rusty down pipe in my car port.

Pollinating flowers on the lemon tree in my front garden (Cairns – Queensland).

These bees are unique to Australia and do not sting!!!

Sometimes these fellows swarm and you can walk through them without feeling any danger (though keep your mouth shut).

I am always happy watching these animals go about their daily business, and they’re so cute and so tiny!!! It actually makes me laugh.

There is no photoshop or after alteration to this photo – it’s as it is no cropping nothing.

Trigona or Austroplebia spp
