The Cards Aren't Stacked In RBs Favor... BtP RPG Card Game
So many specifics yet to be ironed out, but really the idea is more about fun than it is playability.
The Cards Aren't Stacked In RBs Favor... BtP RPG Card Game belongs to the following groups:
Complex Simplicity of Art, ***♂♥♥QUORN♥♥♀, A New Aesthetic.... Divine and Otherwise , All About the RPG, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Birth of the Next Designer Generation, THE DARK CELL and WMGWell it was bound to come about, and here it is… blame it on the WotC or my childhood RPG fetish, but I decided RB has just too much to poke fun at NOT to turn it into a collectible card game.
This is what I would call the Mega-Alpha release of Bubble the Pandering. As you will notice, the rules are horribly complex an most surely do not play out correctly… I did my best to stick to the spirit of the Bubble. Below are tentative card types, point systems, example cards, and a prototype of what a card might look like.
Beyond just advice and brilliantly funny card names, I guess we also need artwork for each one. Anyone who would like to contribute in this fun little side adventure let me know.
Point Systems:
Time – Each player begins with 4 hours per turn, but this can be increased or decreased by cards in play. Time is used to perform all events or Fan collection in the game.
Fame – Fame is the measure of your popularity on RedBubble. You must have a certain amount of Fame in order to play certain events, and if at any time you have fame of 0, you lose the game. Unlike Time, Fame is not spent through its use towards effecting events, but can be depleted by actions taken by your opponent, as well as other events.
Comments – Provided by Fans and other types of cards, for every five comments you rank, you gain one Fame point.
Malign – This is any negative feeling towards you. The antithesis of Fame (though they do not directly relate). If your Malign ever out-ranks your fame however, you lose the game. Otherwise, Malign comes into play in certain card events and effects.
Earnings – Earnings are accumulated to allow you more time each round. The idea is, when raking in dough Bubble-Side, you have less need to work on outside endeavors. So here, money=Time.
Card Types:
Member Cards: They come in three tiers and many types. We have the Kitten Photographers, and the S&M Bear Clubbers, and all those between, but the primary groups are:
Administrators: Somewhat like magnum members, these individuals not only gain you more Fame, but also allow other special benefits. They don’t have secondary classifications, because they’re based on real Admins and I really would rather not push my luck more than I already am.
Red-Dotters: Natural Red Dotters are pumped up versions of regular members. It is possible by means of other cards to promote a normal member into a Red-Dotter.
Fans: Those who watch your work, they contribute to your Fame a little and occasionally your Earnings by being played into your fan base. They also can come with some rather irritating negative qualities as well.
Promotion Cards: Events that remain on your Overview after being played, but which are not Member cards. These may supplement Members, or have independent effects of their own.
Groups: Having groups allows various benefits, but the real heavy artillery comes out when you combine a group with,
Forums: Played on Groups, forums have any number of effects, but mostly increase Fame and Earnings, and,
Moderator Privileges: Power corrupts, but don’t go too crazy. Though great for Fame, these beauties are a major Time drain, as well as having potential to cause Malign.
Features: Fame boosters with a Malign twist (think Featured on homepage + jealousy)
Nuisances: They come in all shapes and sizes, and will be the primary mode of attack in bringing down your opponent while bringing yourself up. It may not be nice, but it’s effective.
Aspects: Good or bad or both, these cards are representations of the various aspects that one finds on RB. Along with Nuisances, these cards are the most common.
Examples of Cards:
Over-Eager Fan – Aspect
While Over-Eager Fan is in your fan base, double the number of any Comments you earn. All comments gained in this way while Over-Eager Fan is in play score you no Comment points, but become full Comments should Over-Eager Fan ever be removed from your Fan Base.
Addiction – Aspect
Play this card on a Fan of any type. That fan now produces +2 Comments per turn in addition to any other Comments the card provides.
Assault of Group BMails – Nuisance
Play Assault of Group BMails on one of your opponent’s Groups in play that he or she is not Moderating. As long as it remains in effect, opponent loses one Time counter at the start of each turn, regaining it at the beginning of your following turn. At any time opponent may Suspend the effected Group, but if they choose to do so, the Group is removed from the game permanently.
Red Dotify -Aspect
Play the Red Dotify only on standard Fans in your own Fan Base that do not have a Red Dot upgrade already. Red Dotify allows one extra Time point per turn, and cannot be the target of Nuisances. However, the Fame requirement to maintain the Fan doubles.
Stupid Question – Nuisance
Play stupid question only during opponent’s turn and only if they have just played a Forum card. Place three overlook counters on the Forum. As long as any counters remain, the forum produces no points of any kind. At the beginning of each subsequent turn after Stupid Question is played, remove one counter from Stupid Question. Once all counters are gone, gain one Malign point, and opponent may discard Stupid Question.
Default Challenge Win – Feature
Play at the beginning of your turn. During this turn, you may not be affected by any Nuisance cards. This does not include Nuisance cards previously played that have lasting effects, which still act as normal.
Temporary Substitute – Moderator Privilege
May be played individually even if you have no Group cards in play. The Time cost of 2 must be paid each turn, or this card is discarded. While you continue to pay the Time upkeep, any Malign points are tallied to the side and not applied to your total. If ever Temporary Substitute leaves play, all Malign points set aside are increased by %50 (rounding down) and applied to your total.
Unusually Popular Post – Forum
Any effect that would earn you Fame provides one addition point. If it is a member card which supplies the Fame, earn 2 extra points.
Male Nudes in Black and White – Adult Group Card
If at any time you play a Family Group card, this card is removed from play.
If your opponent at any time has Moderator Privileges on more than one Family Group Card, you gain 3 Malign points and this card is discarded. You may prevent this effect each turn by paying an additional 2 Time points.
Fame Bonus: +X-3 per turn where X is the number of Adult Fans you have in play.
Earnings Bonus: Whenever you play a Gay Male Fan card, gain one Earning point.
Vapid Poet – Adolescent Fan
Fame Bonus: +1 for every other poet you have as a fan.
Does not count towards Comment bonus, and may not be used for Earnings.
You may remove Vapid Poet from your Fan Base at any time to prevent your opponent from gaining up to 2 Earnings points.
RB Sell-Outs – Institutional Group
While RB Sell-Outs is one of your Groups in play, you may play cards requiring up to 3 more Fame points than you currently have. Each time you do so, you must choose to either remove a Fan from your Fan Base, or gain 2 Malign points.
What’s-His-Name With the Hair – Heterosexual Red Dotter
While What’s-His-Name With the Hair is in your fan base, Groups cost one less Time point to play. This does not effect any possible per turn Group upkeep.
Fame Bonus: +1 per turn
Jo, the Juggernaut – Administrator
When Jo is placed into your fan base, choose one of the following:
Fame Bonus: +3 per turn, and the points cannot be countered on the turn they are earned.
All Malign points gained are reduced by 1, but may not be reduced to zero.
During your turn, you may pay 15 Fame points to remove a Moderator card from one of your opponents Groups and play it on one of your own groups instead.
OR
Fame Bonus: +1 per turn
Earnings Bonus: + 1 per turn
Whenever an opponent plays a Group or Red Dotter Card, you may flip a coin three times, each time calling heads or tails. If the flip is in majority favor to you, that card is discarded. If the flips favor your opponent, card is played as normal. If you lose the coin toss, you may pay 6 Fame points to reattempt the block. No more than one retry is allowed per blocking attempt.

Card Blank:

Example Card:

In the above example, you must have at least 8 Fame points to even consider playing the card. However, it does not require any of your time or earnings, nor does it cause you to gain malign points. While this card is in play, you earn Comments as usual from things which supply them, but they do not have the effect of adding up to score you Fame points as they normally do. When this Fan is booted from your Fan Base (still working on the rules to that one), all the Comments earned gain the normal value and once again earn Fame.
Yeah, so I’m confused too… but look at it this way, we can have fun mocking the bubble and making art to fit the (loving) jibes, and maybe along the way the rules will just work themselves out.
So, I know all of you have something you’d like to roast… give em to the public…

oh good god…. explain the rules to me 10 more times and i will take you on…. but i really hate having to be nice to red dots… except for about 3 who i adore..they are annoying as hell….... do i get any points for this comment….... if so deuct them back off because i have to go walk monkey and will not immediately reply to your counter comment if and when you make one…. or is that against the rules…. and what were the rules? never mind i won’t be back to read them for awhile..because aftr walking monkey i have to go to Man Art and see if anyone there has posed a question about rules in one of the groups which has only a few rules but they are hard to follow… then i’ll be back to see if the game has started or is over… but i will play the next one if that’s allowed in the rules… there are rules…right?

I only said we had to be (sly in making fun of) eh-hem, nice to the Founding Admins… the Red-Dotted Step-Children they managed to lure into positions of servitude are fair game (sorry Faizan).

OMG! G. I love this game! It’s too hilarious! I totally get the hints too. This is of course a catchy theme here, and I think this game could really blow up if it were to be really played. Which of course here on RB it really is! lol Good job! Well thought out

Childhood obsession with RPG’s? Please, Gordon, we all know you still can’t get enough of them. I shall read this properly in a few hours, after I have played the most recent edition of the newest ultimate RPG for an unhealthy amount of time… The Witcher… Ahem

but did i get any points?
blamo
I think you made commando …........B

Hilltop Disco – Adolescent Fan.
+1 comment for all previous works when played
+2 comments per turn
-1 time per turn reading his bmails
-all time/+3 comments if he is online at the time you mistakingly reply to his bmails
-2 time per turn reading his bmails if he had a bad day yesterday
lose 2 turns when you kick him from your fan base due to the tidal wave of bmails you get from him begging you to like him again.
I’m a bad fan to have. I’m still not sure if I completely get the rules but they make more sense now. Shame you don’t carry on with these.
Oh I have 223 comments, that is 44 fame points I think. There should be a decrease rate over time if player becomes inactive, or is there already one? I doubt I would have many left now.
