The Hierophant ~ V
The voice to society – man and woman – as the Magician is the voice to the mystical and without true form, the Hierophant is the one who must understand and translate mortal lessons. Right hand in the action of bleeding the left, so does the one responsible for the guidance of those in search of self realization often have to give the very essence of himself to the world.
The right hand, subject to the left brain, the part which calculates what always equals the sum of its parts, is in the case of the sage, concrete in form. The left hand, the one which is pierced, is the mystical, faith-based, second-sighted. The struggle for the teacher of man and woman, to all men and women, is hardship in maintaining any lifeblood within his own hopes, and ability to rely on greater things ( things beyond the eye ) to act as a stitch when life proper weakens the will. Very much as the split beast, the Steppenwolf, this is an image of one torn between sides… too often required to fight for the nature of the animal, and thus at odds with the nourishment of adopted, nurturing ideals of one created to be as he is.
The secondary piece of the sociological – the battle of “the human condition” – to the first, that of the Magician, in the tarot’s Major Arcana, of all multitude of exact ways to be read, the Hierophant holds these common threads…
To go to great lengths to lift others in mind, while by this very token in a battle to stay afloat in light of overly determined self reliance, and often nearly impossible spiritual satiation.
A contradiction in many ways, as unable to look above without disbelief, the Hierophant becomes the above itself, and stands torn as an abacus required to position its own calculi. The stones he bears may guide others, but he is at a loss to control his own much needed understandings.
Sometimes called The High Priest, he should not be offset in thought to The High Priestess… beyond perhaps his flaws being shone, while hers, few, and veiled by a curtain of peace.

I Photoshop the heck out of it. It’s funny, I’d never touched Photoshop until a month ago, and now everything I do (primarily) goes through it first.

Not much to say, for you have described him wth wisdom enough.
Now my own. Used to The Pope of the Marseilles pack, I find him extremely young, apetizing….(you know…) misterious….intended in his own skill and penetrating look. Managing his energy in order to produce a magic change around..Quite self-sentered. It is really spectacular due to the intensity of the portrait. I feel a bit ackward before him. Afraid of his power.
Rosa (thanks for participating into Tarot: Map of Consciousness.. a great honor to have you here….ready for receiving all of your extraordinary cards that will teach us many profound things about the characters, about yourself and our own)

Because we need such a complete vision…a new closeness to what it emanates inside when we think about characters…archetypes. Because this work seemed to be a promise of new ones being softly submmitted to our insight..this work deserves it!!
