One of the most well known, if not the most well known, of all Dinosaurs. Armed with sharp tail spikes no Jurassic predator would dare attack an adult, healthy Stegosaurus. The plates on the animals back were once thought to be for protection but with improved scientific analysis they were found to be richly supplied with blood vessels. This leads to the common theory that they were used by the animal to help regulate its body temperature. Scientist think this animal may have existed in small family groups. Stegosaurus means “roof-lizard”.
