Autumn Scene

Autumn Scene

Take a relaxing stroll through a late afternoon autumn forest. The grass is long enough to loose your boots in and the shade is cool.

Created with Autodesk Maya 8.5, with textures edited in Photoshop.

This took me three solid weeks. Everything was created from scratch. Some textures were from www.mayang.com, and the rest are from my stock.

This is actually one frame from my 10sec movie. Which is on youtube .
The movie itself took 14hrs to render, because each frame was rendered five times with multi-pass rendering. The multiple frames were composed in AfterEffects.

This is my first 3D scene, so any helpful hints will be well appreciated : )

Multipass rendering = OMG Speaking seriously, pretty nice render! I like the textures and… well, you built everything from scratch. Congratulations! The 14 hours part is scary… but the detail (the ground+grass looks especially neat) is worth it.

Thnx so much TopazRose, BlueKnot and AbyssalSoul. I liked how the grass tuned out too _ It took so long to make! It was for a University assignment though, so I hope It’ll boost my marks :)

YaY for Skyla… my DOF turned out black so I didn’t bother rendering it… I only had a key diffuse and a key shadow… in the end my clay world is a FLESH world… ahahhaa… oh btw… kudos to you.. I like your scene

Thnx Rawbun! Yeah I didn’t attempt a DOF but I did do AO with low detail. I can’t remember him showing us how to do DOF.
    I want see your scene! : )

Aww make me feel guilty for accidently picking up the wrong file. I love the frass though and Yay! Rock. I tried to do one of those…and failed. I love how the trees look though :3

For rocks I simply apply a noise modifier (I hope there is an equivalent in Maya), the infamous “asteroid texture” or something similar and voilá, you have rockity rocks. If there is a better way please by all means mention it. Always cool to learn more things.

Yeah, for the rock I ended up using a fractal texture (I think) or some sort of pre-generated Maya texture. Same for the bump. Yay for grass! Running through long grass is awesome :D
    lol “rockity rocks”
Hey luckydog, the back trees are actually cards of pre-rendered paint effects. The large ones are mashed nurbs surfaces with two textures. Are you going to post yours up too? looks hopefull
