This lovely team are taking a break between jobs in the busy streets of Melbourne, where they cart tourists down the main thoroughfare for a ride past the Arts Centre & Victorian Art Gallery & a small loop of the Royal Botanical Gardens before returning to the start point.
The majority of horse teams consist of Clydesdale, Clydesdale-cross, Percheron & Percheron-cross horses. Most pull open-top carriages, which can be challenging in our erratic winter climate, and the driver’s are responsible for ensuring the health & safety of their team at all times. Australian federal law still recognises horses as an official form of road transport and a horse being ridden, driven or led by a handler has right on way over ALL combustion engined vehicles on our roads. For their part, the responsible person must obey the road rules, but is only required to hold a driver’s license if they are in fact driving a horse in harness.
