So what are sleepers, I’m assuming from the picture the timbers under the track. We call them RR ties here in the US. People like to use them to make retaining walls or flower gardens.

Yeah, that’s the one – don’t know why, but here in Australia (& also in New Zealand) they are referred to as railway sleepers – they get put to the same uses in gardens here too.
