Tiffany's
There’s a strange light in NYC like no other. It’s as if the light has been bouncing around the same old haunts for decades… so much so that it’s slightly worn and yellowed at the edges.
I’d never been to Tiffany’s, but there it was. Dying to see the forbidden treasures under guard inside the luxurious fortress, I wandered about the store oggling the fine sterling diamond-encrusted frogs, and glistening multi-carat dog collars. It was all so glorious and grand… that is, until I noticed my every move was being tracked by stern suited men with ear piece and remote-controlled surveilance cameras.
At first I was crushed to be a “suspect”. The more I became ashamed of my own poverty, the angrier I got. How dare they! The arrogance! I only wanted to catch a glimpse of decadent opulence… just to dream for a few minutes. I had just as much right to be there as anyone.
Soon, I was gradually herded back towards the multi-layered security gates and back onto the street. Back to the dirty-water dog steam and roasted chestnut aroma wafting and mingling with taxi exhaust.
I took one more look back into the forbidden fortress and wished I had actually taken something from them. Then I caught it… a glimpse of that magically strange NYC light creating a dual reflecting dimension in one of Tiffany’s precious display windows… So, when no one was looking… I took that instead.

youre officially a genius in my book.
this must be one of the most perfectly executed combinations of how and why and reflects upon so many things that make our world focus on the rich.
i love everything about this, from the balls behind the glass distorting and discolouring the reflection to the angle.
again, your commentary is especially awesome.

Wow! You’re an incredible writer too! Been there, felt the same, love that you took something tangible away. I took the ‘sparkle’ though; never seen anything quite that dazzling before or after.
Love the photo.
Skip Hunt replied
I try. Thanks. :-)
I would have taken some sparkles… and was actually looking for something reasonably affordable, but I guess the goons in there thought I had other plans. ;-)
JanG
Yeah well…I only took the sparkle in my memory! Oh so pretty, but definitely not affordable without some major saving up!

As a native New Yorker, let me remind you of something – those goons have zero talent which is why they work as guards in Tiffany. F’em! You got the best of what’s in that store right here. Beautiful capture.

Fantastic!

I thought this was an interesting PS knit of two separate images, then read the description and I agree with Lys. Brilliant.
I went engagement ring shipping there with my gal in December and felt like the woman that served us was going to flash a sardonic smile, tell us that we didn’t belong there and usher us to the lift.
I let them keep their glitter to sheath the abyss. The scene outside on 5th Ave was far more precious, in my opinion.
I’ve featured this in the NYC group.
