This beautiful grulla mustang mare, her grulla daughter and the strawberry roan foal of another member of the familial herd, living in the Triple B Complex (Antelope Valley) just north of Ely Nevada USA, were grazing in the sage brush alongside the dirt road.

They were not as comfortable as the stallions in the herd with us getting close as the mother was very protective of the foals. They did let us close enough but watched our every move.

At the end of July 2011, the BLM completed another round-up in the Antelope Valley, specifically in the Triple B complex. The BLM is planned to round-up 1,700 horses as it says the 1.3 to 1.7 million acres of BLM land can only sustain 500 – 700 horses. I am not certain how many were captured in this round-up.

It will just absolutely break my heart if these horses I was able to photograph with Jeanne Nations in the Antelope and Triple B complexes are included in this sensless and unnecessary round-up.

Please support helping stop these inhumane round-ups.

  • Thank you most kindly Kristi….very much and very greatly appreciated. This grulla mare and her foal were inseperable….it was so beautiful to observe that kind of love and bonding out in the wild….perfectly demonstartes that these majestic creatures really do have feelings and emotions the same as ours!
