Nikon D200 body. Nikon 70-300mm lens.

Wild Sulpher Springs Mustang stallion shot at Return to Freedom (RTF) in Lompoc California. After being round-up by the BLM, Chief had been horribly abused and then rescued by RTF. Despite his chaotic and violent history, his spirit was never broken and he is a truly noble and magnificent stallion.

He is my absolute favourite stallion at RTF and I never tire of shooting him year after year. Because I keep returning to RTF and quietly hanging out in his “space”, he is letting us get a tad closer each time I am there…..and he no longer runs away. I am hoping that one of the times when I return to RTF, he will let me get close enough to touch him.

Thank you for your comments….much much appreciated. Chief is my favourite horse at “Return to Freedom” wild horse sanctuary in Lompoc, California. I have an entire body of work of him and his mares as I go to RTF every year to do a shoot with friends.
