Sunset over Stonehenge…

No one really knows the reason for the existence of this mysterious circle of huge stones on the plains of Salisbury, UK, though they may have had some astronomical importance due to the alignment of the stones around the mid summer sun. They have stood here for over 4500 years and the largest stone weighs over 45 tons!

The stones once formed a circle of standing stones linked by horizontal lintels. Not all of these remain, due to the ravages of time, but enough remain to strike awe into the thousands of visitors each year from all over the world who come to marvel at the sheer magnitude of them, and ponder their meaning and construction techniques.
